Caribbean

More than 70 islands make up the Caribbean area, and the distance between them makes the airplane the most effective means of transportation between them. The largest islands are Cuba, Hispaniola (divided between the two countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic) and Jamaica. Most of these islands were conquered by Europeans colonialists and peopled by Blacks from Africa. Based on the pattern of settlement, languages vary greatly among the islands and dialects of English, French, Spanish and Dutch are among the languages spoken.
