An Afro-Cuban dance genre, mambo fuses Afro-Cuban dance rhythms and jazz improvisation, and first became popular in the 1940s. Perez Prado's "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom While" in 1955 brought wider attention to the genre, and more recently "Buena Vista Social Club," which won a Grammy, has brought renewed attention to Cuban music.
