In Arab music the role of the singer/poet is the most important feature. Since Islamic religion opposes bad behavior such as drunkenness and gambling associated with popular entertainment, there is a perception that the Muslim world is unsupportive of music. Nevertheless, music has an important role in religious ceremonies and there is backing for music with appropriate texts. Music in Arabic is closely allied to the sound of the language.
