Darabuka

The darabuka is a goblet-shaped, single-headed drum. This drum originated from the Middle East and it is popular in the music of Arab countries. The base is made of a solid piece of aluminum or nickel and can come engraved or have covering material. The drum is named for its shape and is often elaborately decorated. The percussionist plays the darabuka by striking the center and edges of the head with both hands.
