Ragtime

Ragtime is a piano genre that uses stride style playing. It is not actually a form of jazz because it does not involve improvisation, but it grew and developed at the same time as early jazz and many jazz players have been influenced by ragtime. Its key figures include James P. Johnson, Scott Joplin, and Eubie Blake, to name just a few.
