R&B jazz uses the rhythms and harmonies of contemporary R&B and applies them to jazz. There were a number of musicians in the 1940s and 1950s who were in this genre, including Louis Jordan, Illinois Jacquet, and Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson. The tradition continues today with a combination of jazz and more modern R&B rhythms.
