Medieval music includes the music of Western Europe from about 450 A. D. through 1450. Its beginning is marked by the fall of the Roman Empire and its end is marked by the renaissance era. Most of the music that we know of from this era is vocal and falls into the category of Gregorian chant, which was the official music of the Catholic Church.
