Not to be confused with the general heading of "classical music," the classical "era" spanned from 1750 to 1820. The most significant composers of this time were Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven. They helped create and develop two new genres in music -- the string quartet and the symphony.
