Impressionism is a musical style developed by Claude Debussy at the end of the nineteenth century. He was influenced by French poetry and French impressionist art, and his music shares many characteristics with the painting of his time. Impressionist melodies are often vague and the textures can be very misty or cloudy, similar to the art of Claude Monet and August Renoir.
