It's My Life (And I Like It Just Fine)
Hi. My name is Jane,
I live in San Ramon
I BART 50 miles to work each day
And I'm always on the cell phone
It's my life, and I like it just fine
I go out with my friends
From the Executive pool
I've got no kids to pick up
After school
It's my life, and I like it just fine
Some tell me that I should follow certain rules
That being single past 30 is only for fools
Well, they can put that Good Book back on the shelf
God loves me 'cause I can help myself
I live on my own
With a cat and a dog
My roommates are my Powerbook
And an I Male catalog
It's my life, and I like it just fine
I microwave my veggies
I steam all of my fish
I haven't seen my fridge in so long
It looks like a petri dish
It's my life, and I like it just fine
Some tell me I need a man
To keep by my side
Yet everytime I look for one
They all seem to run and hide
I did personals and discos,
They didn't do me right
But these sweet talkers on AOL
Keep me up niqht after night
I'm drinking every weekend
I'm home at 3 am
I'll cry to sleep a bit
But in the morning I'm at it again
It's my life, and I like it just fine

I wrote this song after watching Ally McBeal too many times as well as reading Bridget Jones' Diary and finding the same type of this "God-I-Need-A-Man" type
of angst in there as well. I'm in a blues
kind of vein at the moment, so I was thinking Lyle Lovett when I was putting this song together. The song took an hour to arrange and program, two hours to record, and, due to multiple computer crashes, 2 days to paste together.

Ragtime piano with a pretty little solo at 3:10 ( was that a piano or an xiliphone? }
There is a definate touch of Honkey Tonk in her voice.
Production is very good and her voice is sweet and sexy. I highly recomend you give her a listen.
Peace,

It features delightful vocals over ragtime music which, for this reviewer, is a rare treat. Production here is somewhat stark (and I certainly know what it's like to be limited to home recording) but the strength of the song itself quickly moots that point.
