Lyrics

I wish that I could save up all my troubles in a bank account at 6 percent. In 20 Years the interest earned could make me a billionnaire. You know she left me for a business man from Utah, with six kids in tow. In 20 Years the wreckage in my heart should still be there. My dear friends console me as I drown these tears. I never thought she'd leave me lonely after 20 Years. Well I tried to phone her but the operator said "I'm sorry that line's disconnected". It's hard to track your woman down when she's got no address. You know I've heard it said you don't know what you've got, my friend, until it's gone. If I knew then what I know now well she might still be here. My dear friends console me as I drown these tears. I never thought she'd leave me lonely after 20 Years. Of all the girls in Jersey I had to pick the one God made to destroy me. Still, after 20 Years and all the messed up things she did (well) I'd do it all again, but I'd break HER heart instead. Well it's closing time so take my empty bottles back to the recycle bin. 20 beers have numbed this aching heart for just one more night. My dear friends console me as I drown these tears. I never thought she'd leave me lonely after 20 Years.

Review:

This song has professional-quality written all over it. It brings me back to my bluegrass days (ahh, you have to love those massive harmonies that are present in this kind of music). Of course, being the reviewer I am, I have to list a couple of complaints: The vocals are a bit out of tune in places. But the backing is incredibly strong, and the rhythm of the tune complements the rest of the song nicely. Nice song - I can picture this one being sung around campfires late at night for quite a long time...

Review:

I have this album. This is a fun song full of tounge in cheek humor and merriment. Guitar playing is excellent, lyrics are both witty and sublime. Crosby, Still, Nash and Young Revisited with Cat Stevens sitting in.
