During the baroque era several composers wrote solo music for winds, especially the flute and recorder. However, most of the solo repertoire for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone has been written in the twentieth century. One of the greatest contributions to the repertoire is Igor Stravinsky's Three Pieces for solo clarinet, which has been an inspiration and model for many other composers.
