In the late 80s a mid-tempo derivation of acid house entered the scene. Newbeat as they called it was characterized by its acid synth samples, but more pop friendly beats and vocals. Two of the main pioneers of the genre were KLF and Lords of Acid with "I Sit on Acid". The style faded quickly after they left the industry.

New beat was a Belgian scene from 1987. Lords of Acid fits; the KLF is not normally counted as new beat.
