Country and Western

Country and Western refers to the music of the early years of the country music era. It featured many ballads and folk tunes associated with the Western United States, especially cowboy songs. The melodies and harmonies of country and Western were quite simple and the music was very popular in the movies of the 1930s and 1940s. Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were two of the most important stars of the genre.
