Pretty pictures, carved in stone
Standing silent since time unknown
Find the tablet that holds the key
The meaning is clear to me
They leave us their words
A pretty princess and her loyal slave
who works as scribe for the royal trade
He should be writing about his work
But he only writes about her
They leave us their words
All day they hold their feelings deep inside
and pray that no one sees it in their eyes
At night, she stands and waits for him to come
He does, and loves her until she's done
And after loving, late at night
They carve their words by candlelight
They make two copies, one for her tomb
And one that he'll keep in his room
They leave us their words
I wish I could find a love as true as their's
Someone who will risk it all to show he cares
But it seems to find a love that brave and kind
I guess I've got to travel back in time
Pretty pictures, carved in stone
Standing silent, so long unknown
Find the tablet that holds the key
The meaning is clear to me
They leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words
They leave us, they leave us their words

This was written out of Janet's love for history. The story of a couple in ancient Egypt with a forbidden romance (royalty & servant) and how they risk it all for love, the discovery of that story on an ancient stone tablet ("they leave us their words") and how that makes Janet wonder where the romance is in her life today -- will she have to go back in time to find someone who will risk it all for love with her... |
