The fear has started
It's four in the morning Greenwich Mean Time
(Whatever that means)
But I'm bound for the Village
If my driver can manage not to kill me
On the freeway
When the hotel comes I'll slither inside
Take a couple of pills and watch the sun rise
And then tonight I'll be ready to go
Set up on a lighted stage like a scarecrow, oh no
I'm falling too fast, I better get on top
I'm falling too fast and I can't stop
I've fallen too far from my own tree
I can't stop falling and it scares me
When I stepped off the red-eye
My driver said I better cover my head
'Cause it was raining like Hell
Now from the limousine
I watch a woman leaning on a guardrail
While black hail
Collects on the road and batters the car
Till it seems like we're driving through caviar
I'm just a leased ghost in a haunted show
Playing to a roomful of black holes and dead souls
I'm falling too fast, I better call for help
I'm falling too far into myself
I'm falling so fast that I can't breathe
If I don't stop falling it'll kill me
And by tonight I'll be ready to blow
Sucking up the light like a black hole
The fear has started, it's four AM
The fear has started again
The fear has started and I'm falling
I still don't know what it all means

I sort of pictured Linda Ronstadt or maybe Stevie Nicks, around 1978, having just flown in to New York for a concert, burned out from too much coke, too many pills, too much sex, and too much fame, on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
