Barely a week old and the agreement has been changed. Initially, the $20.00 a month covered all your artists. Now, it is being reported that MP3.com is changing the deal! You now have to pay separately for each artist. Even if they are all you under a bunch of weird names. Well, since most of the 100,000 artists on MP3.com are all the same guy with a buncha weird names. You can imagine the stir this is causing. ------------------ [This message has been edited by KennyLee (edited 02-02-2001).] IP: Logged |

Good point, deel. Especially if MP3.com goes to P4P for premium artists only. Me, Myself, and I have 10 artists there. And I'm not really serious about it. Anyhow, the word is that people were starting to stick a lot of existing artists under 1 ID. I guess MP3.com got afraid that they would end up with only 1 premium artist. Managing 100,000 artists. But in this case, I think their fears were not justified and that MP3.com made a huge business mistake. Endangering there new big money maker. Hey, all of the artists I manage are just me. And I imagine it's the same way for the vast majority. Pushing the monthly fee up to $200.00 a month or more for most people. I mean, some people have speculated that the Snake Crew is all Rene. ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: it is me I'm usually the only one that posts under that handle... there is a copycat at Napster speak out. I have 10 or more artists in my NMA Mp3.com ....I pulled Harvey Mandel's content out of there. they'd have to pay me(Premiums)I'm going to show them if they didn't already know Harvey"The Snake"Mandel is a premium Artist that means you want him you fucking pay not me. Also I want page and chart position thrown in on the deal or guess what. the net other than napster and the like is a dead issue. ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: Well, there may be more. On the rest of the net (outside of MP3.com) they actually pay for content. AOL, for example, pays for content. emusic pays for content. MP3.com is acting like they have absolutely no competition. Who knows, may be true. ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: Well, HM it doesn't seem that obvious to me. The only thing MP3.com has going for it is the undying devotion of the independent artists. Many of whom now pay for the privilege. Major label artists are everywhere on the world wide web. Not just Napster. I mean, MP3.com is nice and all. But if I want major label action? I ain't gonna stream it from MP3.com. There are lots of better ways to get major label music than MP3.com. And, if MP3.com did go All Major Label/No Indies as some suggest? I believe they would fade quickly into the great mass of websites, never to be seen again. Since day 1 the independents have supported MP3.com. Lifted it to the highest heights. If they ever find a way to run them off? That's all she wrote. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I find it ironic and, well, kinda sad that mp3.com cannot seem to even be able to fleece gullible artists without screwing it up. ------------------ Davey Boy Crocky's Solo Project IP: Logged |

Yep, Davey Boy. They had a good thing going. They could have waited a month or two before pulling the plug on multiple-artists-which-are-all-the-same-guy. I mean even AOL gives you 5 screen names for $19.99 a month. Plus they provide an internet connection too. But just when you think MP3.com is getting their shit together? Rod Underhill returns. ------------------ IP: Logged |

in the future there will be a few very well-known sites that will be the main portals for a significant percentage of the digital transmission of bought and streamed entertainment media. Mp3.com is trying to position themselves as one of those portals, as well as trying to find viable revenue streams for the interim until that becomes the normal mode of buying music. That's why they're trying to get people to pay, they need a way to survive until that happens. But they are still gonna get rid of, or backburner the artists that they built that company from..........this is just gonna keep getting worse. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Where are those "Hamster Chronicles"? May I post them on Ampcast? K, this unusual for me but I am askin' a fave from all of you. I would love to kick Mickey D. off of his perch on the BeSonic Alt Country Chart. If you can find the time, how about DLing Phil Frazier Alt Country songs? I mentioned this to one of my daughters and she said that I was regressing to the age of 15. Hey, I don't consider that a bad thing. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Hatchet Man (edited 02-05-2001).] IP: Logged |
