God it is frustrating!!!!

I suppose I should just be glad that All Night Blues is getting P4P again and just leave well enough alone.

But God I hate them jerking us Artists around! Rod knew damn well what was happening when tried to insinuate that nothing had changed. BandTech said we would get more information and then none was forthcoming.

They have purposely misled us and jerked us around instead of just simply coming out and telling us. I just won't be treated like that by someone who expects ME to promo THEIR web site.

And then all these defenders (God I am so angry right now I want to use the H word) try to make the argument about something that it isn't. It is not about whether the changes were good/bad/indifferent. It's not about whether mp3.com is a business.

Here is what it is about:

I noticed something strange happening with my stats. I went to the mp3.com BB to find out what was happening. I found a lot of fellow artists with the same problem and questions. Instead of being informed, we were lied to, misled and ignored.

Sorry - I just really needed to vent this AND get away from the mp3c BB at the same time.

Artist Community: Hey MP3.com, somethings up with our P4P stats, they are really wacked out!

Mp3.com: It is server trouble

Artist Community: Cool, hope it gets fixed soon.

.

<next day>
.

Artist Community: Any luck fixing it yet?

Mp3.com: I don't see that the Pay for Play is broken at all...seems to be working to me.
Some artists have improved, some have declined, that is all perfectly natural.

Artist Community: That cant be true. Look at our stats, something is amiss. What is going on?

Mp3.com: <<Silence>>

Artist Community: Hello???

Mp3.com: We've made changes to the P4P formula...We expect to be able to tell you more later today.

Artist Community: Ok.

<the next day>

.

Artist Community: Hello??? Thought you were going to tell us more yesterday>

Mp3.com: <<Silence>>

Artist Community: Hello???

Mp3.com: <<Silence>>

Artist Community: (now starting to spread all kinds of stories and theories about what is happening) Anybody Home???

Mp3.com: Ha Ha, I am sitting here with Kathleen Somebody.

I dont know if you were there when I was but
the finally for me was when I was censored
and deleted on that forum by God Rod himself.

Well many people saw it and slammed Rod for
censorship. You could almost see Rod in a corner scrambling. He tried the strategy of
claiming I was "spamming" the board and that
is why he DELETED a thread or 2 and deleted my user name. Most legitimate people did not buy it. Rod ultimately faced his for the moment defeat.

The stat numbers have been bull crap from day
one. Ill repeat just for purpose.

My credit card was charged by mp3.com for my own CD. I did not buy it and it didnt even show up as a DAM sale yet i was billed.

"deel" had his own outrageous issues in regards to Credit Cards and sales and I think that was his final straw to get him out of there.

It all boils down to getting ripped off.

I sure would like to know out of the 300 people working there how many are teenagers.

AOL had there HUGE problem with credit card
fraud by some of there young employees. I believe they were teens or early 20s. Not absolutely sure on the ages here people.

I agree that criminal mischeif is popular in every age group.

The thing is is that mp3.com probably has quite a few very low paid people working there getting credit card numbers and either
screwing up inocently on not inocentely.

I am frustrated as hell to. I told my freind
in San Fran. about his web page on mp3.com
and that he had made a whopping 12 dollars.

Well he deleted himself off there today.

he promotes the hell out of his band and he
felt it was an embarrassment for him and his band as well as for me to see it.

he has toured with Black Sabbath in the band
Exodus for Christ Sakes.

I HATE MP3.COM.

Is that the H word you wanted to use. If so
I did it for you. Get off that site and spread the word.

Davey Boy, I understand how you feel.

But we have kinda been over this before.
Leaving don't work.

It's just that every month or so we see how little they regard our efforts.

Anyhow, here are the only acts that could have an impact if they left mp3.com. Along with their earnings from the one lovely month of May.

quote:

303Infinity Electronic Houston, TX $23,786.81

Ernesto Cortazar Easy Listening Burbank, CA $18,402.10

Raveing Lunatics Electronic Kristianstad Sweden $17,390.38

The Cynic Project Electronic Stillwater, MN $16,791.10

Bassic Electronic Tampa, FL $15,800.80

Killer Spam's Comedy Stuff Comedy Culver City, CA $12,237.76

Paul Cooper Electronic United Kingdom $11,244.35

BENTFRAME Hip Hop/Rap Chicago, IL $7,566.31

Trance Control Electronic Stockholm, Sweden $7,354.60

Daniel Cox Latin Calgary, Alberta $6,308.

And they won't leave of course because they're making too much money.

ALL I NEED IS 12,000 LISTENS A DAY!*

*i'm only about 12,000 listens short of reaching my goal

Davey Boy, I just did a little math.

The top ten earners on mp3.com earned a total of $136,882.42

About 13.7% of the million dollars in May.

Why? Because they are doing thousands of listens a day. Up to 14,000 listens a day.

All these guys are probably good for almost 100,000 listens a day. That's a lot of traffic. It's also a lot of leverage. Something the rest of us don't have.

STILL 12,000 LISTENS SHORT TODAY!

I.M.K
I have been at mp3c since the beginning and I have seen many changes at mp3c. Some I liked some I didn't.

I think their desire to 'draw' traffic to the site has left most of us in the dust
(that's ok, we're in good company )the same way Walmart kills the mom 'n' pop store.

Well said, Ten. Especially when the emotion comes from a perception that is not real. Which is: Perceiving that we have any impact on the decisions of mp3.com. Or that we have any relationship with the site.

The reality is, we do not.

The mentality of mp3.com has gone corporate. Because they are a publicly traded corporation. Whatever they say or present to us that may imply a relationship is only in relation to their larger goals.

Which is: Make Mp3.com the main music content provider for the internet. Just like years ago, when MTV became the main music content provider for cable television.

When MTV started they presented a lot of unknown bands. Until they were able to reach accord with the major labels. A deal was struck, which is similar to the one being struck now. Once the deal was done, you pretty much had to be on a major label to get on cable in heavy rotation.

So, the future for independent musicians must lie elsewhere. MP3.com was the past and is the present. But something else is our future.

Maybe Utah.

H.I.

I filled out a few "stats" problem reports last year in Sept. and August. I left that place on 1/1/00.

quote:
Is it possible that there have been some problems with the download stats in the past few days? I was getting roughly 150 page hits, 100 downloads, 125 instant plays per day and for the past few days the page hits and previews are fairly high (over 100) but the download count is low (30 to 50). I know this is entirely possible but it doesn't fit the pattern of the last 45 days where all the numbers are fairly equal. Just checkin'

quote:

Is there a possibility that my web page stats are erroneous? I have had as many as 230 web page hits on one day, but only 115 downloads and 107 previews. Very strange... Ever since 8/13/99 I have had very high numbers for page hits, but the downloads and previews are about 1/2 of that. It doesn't follow the pattern of the last 12 weeks leading up to 8/13/99 where at least the previews and page hits were close in size. Also, why do some songs go up on the charts with just 5 downloads per day (i.e. "3AM" in the techno/minimal genre which is huge) and songs like "Gene Ween" start falling for no reason with 17 downloads per day in a smal genre like alt/mod ?

quote:

I'm still bothered by the stats page ever since Aug. 6. If we look just at September 1, 2, and 3, we see that on the 1st and 2nd of September, there were 150 web page views, but the previews were around 50 and the downloads were around 40. This is very strange because it says to me that 150 people looked at my web page but only a third of them bothered to preview a song or download a song, and then the same thing happened again the next day!? (this happened alot throughout August starting on Aug.6)

Does your system count 1 visit per IP address per web page view or can a person visit the page mutliple times and get counted multiple times?

On Sept. 3, the stats look more reasonable because all 3 factors are high which makes sense. Is there a problem with the stats counters for Sept. 1, and 2?

Thank you,
CBH3

And the response was the same, everytime:

quote:

Volatile stats data are to be expected due to the dynamic nature of the internet. It is normal for pageviews to outnumber downloads. But we've seen it where the reverse can happen also. Stats data are accumulated per unique IP address per day.

Thanks.
mp3.com

I think they tweak those stats to do anything they want. It seems like it should be illegal. When McDonald's gives out $1 million dollars, they have to follow rules and laws for fairness. MP3c just folows their own ever-changing rules!

howdy fellas!

looks like the same old shite as it ever was.
they shake the trees to see who will drop, because the independent artist,
is just a painful reminder of thier unfullfilled promises and hollow lines of rhetoric, or would that be constipated lines?
smells like it.

they are making it up as they go along.
nothing wrong with that i suppose.

the place is just too schitczophrenic to be considered a trustworthy partner in anything.
especially for a semi-skeptical personality like mine.
what's next?

missing harddrives??

alliance with napster for the full frontal assault on those who dare to profit yet refuse the preliminary assimilation agreements?

i'm just glad to see that more people are beginning to notice.

live long and hamster.
