Is anyone here getting involved with this? If so, why? ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'm in. I think it's cutting edge...the best of both worlds. You figure, the CD is going to be distributed to real-world stations, who will give them for free to their customers. The CD gives them free web access with a browser that's branded to their station. The music on the CD links back to us. I really think it's a fresh, novel approach to bringing internet music to non-internet markets. Wow, I just read what I wrote...you'd think I was selling the idea! --Loren ------------------ IP: Logged |

That's an interesting take on it Loren. I am wondering though, if you are ever going to know where your CD went and if it's getting played. I didn't read anything about charting or at least getting some feedback via MB. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I figure, the songs are going to link back to the artist's musicbuilder site. Traffic there really is dismal right now, by their own admission. I kind of think that an increase in traffic there is going to HAVE to be a result of MilleniaWeb. You're right though, it would be nice to be able to have some kind of tracking. --Loren ------------------ IP: Logged |

Strangecloud, Are you looking at this as a means of free promo/exposure? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Shaky, I think alot of people are prolly considering it as well. There are alot of people here who really like and support MB so I really wonder how they view this MB promotion. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I think it's a cool idea - I've long said that the music site that starts to break into the untapped markets (aye, I sound like a SUIT!) will be the site that really kicks some butt. I mean, I know of thousands of students at my university alone who use the Internet but just for email & chat - and they jump on any promos (There were some guys passing out yet another free ISP - well, it was free with a catch - CD the other day, they got rid of em all in no time flat!) like this and I think MB could really end up getting tons of traffic if they make the right moves. Glad I'm currently ranked #9 in my genre then. ![]() Too bad none of their partners yet are stations interested in techno/trance/etc. But they claim they're going to figure out a way to work the CDs out so anyone who wants on one will have a chance...so we'll see... ------------------ IP: Logged |

DJ, I agree with the 'promo/exposure' angle, I also think this is a cool feature of the CD
quote: My question is how many people will listen to the CD on their computers as opposed to listening to them in their auto or portable CD player? (Since only 5 or so of the songs will be in Redbook Audio format.) ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'm going for it. MB is the only site that doesn't rip artists off (I'm reserving judgement on LS), and there's no difference between putting MP3s out on the net and on CD... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well kids, here's the poop... First, I just listed the artists that will be on the first 10,000 CDs which are being pressed as I type on Musicbuilder's message boards. Second, being an artist myself I'd be stupid not to submit music for this project! We're currently dealing with some markets who are requesting quotes on two million CDs a pop. Who else on the net can offer that kind of exposure? Nobody... As far as tracking where your music is and whether or not it's being heard? We're currently taking care of that. An artist will be soon be able to track where their music sent and to how many people in each area as well as track who's clicking on their link and exactly where those clicks are coming from. I'd love info like that if I ever planned on touring... It's like Loren said, this is truly cutting edge stuff. We're the first and so far the only ones with the technology not just to do it but to do it right. Anyway, that's enough about that... Back to work I suppose. Peace! Hey Scott, Thanks for posting and thanks for the info. Can you tell us how you decide how songs are chosen to be in the 'red book audio' format? ------------------ IP: Logged |

On this first CD we didn't have time to do redbook. When we do we'll probably be looking for overall song and recording quality. We want the redbook audio to sound as good as possible so that people just getting into the world of indie music won't be scared off. Peace! Scott ------------------ IP: Logged |

Shaky, Yes it's too late for the first round of 10,000. I believe the next station signed up for 20,000. We'll let everyone know when we're ready for those submissions. TentilEight, Awww... thanks, we love you too! heheh Btw, we should probably move this thread to Musicbuilder's MillenniaWEB Q&A forum outta respect for Sean and the crew... ------------------ IP: Logged |

I was lucky enough to get into the first round. It seems like a great way to promote your music and build traffic at Musicbuilder. I hope we get the chance to be on the second one too.------------------ IP: Logged |

Sins, It's never too late! Even though the first round of CDs are being pressed right now we have ALOT of other stations coming up in the future. We will be varying which artists appear on the CDs from station to station. ------------------ IP: Logged |
