I think a lot of people are taking Phil the wrong way here... I think too many people look at how something is said rather than what is being said. Phil has a very abrasive attitude but also quite often makes some of the best points on boards he is involved with. I have often disagreed with him, but there is no doubt in my mind that he is intelligent, knowledgeable and wants to help artists... give him a chance...

If he wants to upload material and take the chance here he MIGHT get some respect back. (But that is doubtful)

He can also post publicly what he thinks he knows about a certain contest, and we can ALL be the judge. Nobody is going to pay him money for this information. If he posts it and he is correct, then we can all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Meanwhile I will just consider him to be a TROLL, a troublemaker, and a very BAD influence on indiestore.com.

God help Damo and Mimo.

I think Phil is a smart guy, but he bring a lot of the reactions you talk of upon himself.

Why does it matter? The whole purpose of these boards is to have a voice. People don't have to tune in to it.
Am I being simplistic here?

Yes.

I had a VERY IMPORTANT post that got transported into Inferno. That is NOT where I wanted it.

I have moved it back to the amp3.com forum where I originally posted it, sans the BS that was added to it.

Strategically, what Phil is doing makes no sense to me, because he is alienating the one large group of people that would support his ideas and share his concerns.

By personally insulting, from the get-go every artist he can.

And like WeaponX, I don't see how pissing off independent artists, helps an independent artist site.

Websites that are successful, so far, do so by positive means. Their message is, "come over here, we'll help you." Not, "come over here so we can insult you".

Even the now shutdown amp3.com that Phil thinks we were stupid to support drew us into the amp3 cult with positive messages.

It has to do with perception.

As a consultant for MP3.com I was perceived as an actual representative of MP3.com, which, IN FACT, I WAS.

Same thing with AMP3.

This person will be perceived as a rep for Indiestore, even though the relationship might not be that of official representation.

So just to quell that idea, the person in question IS NOT an official rep of Indiestore.com

If you disagree with what is stated by me, the opportunity to state another point of view is open. I ask one thing, stick to the topic that I have introduced in my post. Make your case. If it is logical, persuasive and convincing, I may alter my view.

A person should be a member of the communit(ies) he is attemting to "heal". If they are not, then any opinions stated are not really valid.

I don't live in South Africa. So I don't make statements about South Africa.

I can make statements about my own neighborhood with validity though. Like, there has been a speed-lab going for 3 nights now, somewhere close by, the smell is giving me a headache. It is valid for me to ask my neighbors if I should call the K-9 unit to come out and find it.
